What a find! Like stepping back in time but in a really good way...a genuinely lovely pub. On a very cold Jan evening at the end of a long section of the South Downs way I'd booked a room here. Comfortable simple room at a reasonable price inc breakfast. My evening meal was great and i sat by a glowing fire. Delicious. I only wish we had an unspoilt pub like this where I live! Unfortunately most pubs these days are trying so hard they forget that most customers actually just enjoy a good pint, simple tasty homecooked food and the atmosphere that's created by people feeling welcome and relaxed - not big tv screens or loud music or flamboyant complicated food! Highly recommended.
We've just come back from The Jack and Jill for lunch. The occasion was a year since my brothers passing and we had the wake there last year. My parents asked for a place to be set for him too. The lady at the bar, who also served the beautiful food, was lovely. All in all a really good afternoon. The food was fresh and well cooked and dessert was divine. Thankyou
Although a nice place to stop it was not as good as our previous visit. There was a limited choice of food, hot food was not available as the staff were exceptionally busy.The pub was only able to offer baguettes on this occasion.
Food is nice, the roasts tasty on a Sunday and the garden/playground is lovely. It thankfully lacks the pretentiousness of some other pubs in the area and this is no bad things. Child friendly. They do get busy as peak times so its best to book in advance but the staff always try to fit you in when they can.
We've just enjoyed a beautifully cooked Sunday lunch. The nut and couscous roast was served with masses of lovely fresh vegetables. The menu offered something for everyone. Very polite and helpful staff. Dog and family friendly. Cheryl Wood.
